Brewferm Products
of Beverlo-Beringen, Belgium, produces a line of malt extract kits that
pay tribute to some of Belgium's unique brewing traditions. Each kit contains
a selection of Belgian and European two-row malted barley blended with
whole hops (no hop extract). Available in 3.3-lb (1.5-kg) cans.

Abbey beer, liquid malt extract: This malt
extract makes a strong, dark, reddish-brown beer with a high alcohol
content that lends the beer a vinous character. The finished beer has
the full-flavored taste and malty aroma of a Belgian abbey beer.
Brewferm Gold, liquid malt extract: This
kit produces a Belgian deluxe Pilsener-style beer that has a smoother
taste, a fuller body, and a better mouthfeel than typical commercial
lagers.
Cherry beer, liquid malt extract: Designed
to produce a slightly acidic, sweet aromatic kriek (cherry beer) with
a red copper tint. Each kit contains the equivalent of 3 kg of cherries
in a special blend of cherry juice: no artificial flavoring.
Christmas, liquid malt extract: Not just
for Christmas, this malt extract is designed for a dark, heavy-bodied
beer boasting strong malt aroma and a flavor that is slightly sweeter
than abbey-style beers.
Diabolo, liquid malt extract: This extract
makes a golden-colored Belgian strong ale with a thick, long-lasting
head and a slightly sweet aftertaste.
Framboise, liquid malt extract: One of the
only real fruit beer kits available (the cherry beer is another), this
kit produces a Belgian-style frambozenbier (raspberry beer) with a very
delicate aroma. No artificial flavoring; the kit is flavored using a
special blend of raspberry juices.
Grand Cru, liquid malt extract: This kit
produces a gold, opaline-colored beer with a strong flavor of grains
or bread. Wheat malt and a mixture of secret herbs lend the beer increased
mouthfeel and a distinctive taste.
Old Flemish brown, liquid malt extract: Designed
to produce a very dark brown beer with a licorice aftertaste. This Belgian
oud bruin can also be compared to some of the Dutch Bocks. Allow the
beer 8-12 weeks to mature.
Tripel, liquid malt extract: Producing a
deep golden-colored, high-alcohol beer with a pleasant aroma and flavor,
this extract includes a special mixture of herbs that lend the beer
mouthfeel, body, and a bit of a herbaceous character.
Wheatbeer, liquid malt extract: Produces
a very pale, low-alcohol, honey-type beer with an opaline color. Sweet
smelling and slightly acidic to the taste. Oats and a special mixture
of coriander and orange peel make this Belgian-style witbier stand apart.
