Bioriginal Malt

Bioriginal Malt grew out of an idea proposed to Bioriginal Food and Science Corp., a corporation implemented specifically to extend the value of Saskatchewan's raw agricultural products, primarily by developing products for the nutraceutical and health food industries. As a division of Bioriginal Food and Science Corp., Bioriginal Malt backs its commitment to sustainable agriculture and product integrity with organic products guaranteed by a trail of certification that extends from grower to glass.

Bioriginal's certified organic malt and malt extract are made from Harrington barley, a breed developed in 1982 specifically for brewers and maltsters. Both are certified through the Organic Crop Improvement Association International (OCIA) and derived from barley grown in the heart of the Canadian prairies' grain region in Saskatchewan, where OCIA growers farm over a quarter million acres of organic grains and specialty crops. Bioriginal's malting barley is supplied in part by Grower's International (Belle Plaine, Saskatchewan), one of the first farmers in the Saskatchewan wheat belt to achieve organic certification and the company responsible for proposing the project to Bioriginal Food and Science Corp.

Bioriginal Malt is distributed throughout the United States and Canada and to a growing number of overseas clients.

Malts

Certified organic two-row pale malt: A versatile, well-modified brewers' malt possessing excellent diastatic power (typically up to 155 °Lintner), high FAN, robust fermentation, and a high extract yield (80-82%). Suitable for all beer styles, this malt is particularly appropriate as the primary malt for golden ales, ESBs, bitters, pale ales, light ales, and all lager styles. Malting is performed for Bioriginal by contract exclusively by Prairie Malt Limited (Biggar, Saskatchewan, Canada) using the flexi-malt system, where germination and kilning occur in the same compartment. Degree of clarity: very clear. Odor of mash: aromatic. Rate of filtration: rapid.

Extracts

Certified organic malt extract: An unhopped, unadulterated two-row barley malt extract intended for all-malt extract brewing of lagers, golden ales, pale ales, and bitters, or as an additional partial-mash ingredient. Real attenuation is 49.5%, apparent attenuation is 60.5%. Made exclusively of Saskatchewan-certified organic Harrington barley and processed by Prairie Malt Ltd. Packaged in 2.0-kg (4.4-lb) food-grade plastic pails.
